Welcome to a life of adaptive sports and adaptive outdoor adventures!

We are Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable educational organization. TA provides leadership, programs and specialty therapeutic services To Educate ~To Challenge ~To Inspire persons of all ages and abilities. Those who have experienced traumatic or catastrophic life events must learn positive ways to adapt and overcome these challenges.

Our 40+ years of continuous service is unmatched. We are the only year round adaptive sports and adaptive outdoor adventure program in the Commonwealth of Virginia to serve persons of ALL ages and abilities — physical, developmental, intellectual, mental health and emotional disabilities, as well as those with chronic, terminal health conditions and other complex medical needs. TA takes great pride in the fact that, to date, we have successfully adapted our programs, projects and events to attend to the specific needs of more than three-thousand eight-hundred people with eighty-five different diagnoses.

Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. is proud of our highly trained and committed ALL volunteer adaptive guides, instructors and program support staff. We have created a culture which challenges everyone to achieve their potential, and inspires everyone to care for others.

We embolden our adaptive athletes / clientele with the courage to improve their functional independence, health, fitness and overall quality of life.

OUR PROGRAMS are categorized in two general areas: Therapeutic Adventures (TA) (adaptive outdoor adventures) and IndependencePlus Adaptive Sports (I~AS) (recreational and competitive adaptive sports) which support individuals of all ages and abilities:

• Disabled Heroes – Wounded Service Members, Warfighters, Veterans, 1st Responders and their Families
• Cancer Survivors
• Chronic,Terminal Health Conditions and Other Complex Medical Needs

OUR PROJECTS focus on: (1) Education and Outreach; (2) Accessibility; (3) Safety & Risk Management; (4) Conservation & Eco- Stewardship; (5) Leadership Development; (6) Adaptive Equipment Design & Development.

OUR EVENTS are comprised of adaptive camps, adaptive sports clinics, therapeutic retreats, races, and volunteer service projects.

Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. has developed a unique and integrative approach to instruction using: our IndependencePlus Model, our adaptive Circle of Courage model, and our Adaptive Outdoor Skills Mastery System. Through our unique approach to teaching, coaching, guiding and mentoring, we embolden our adaptive students/clients to set goals and to strive for functional independence. Our belief that ALL persons learn and benefit by being provided with opportunities to develop self-awareness, self- confidence, and self-reliance - has provided Therapeutic Adventures, Inc. with a proven framework for success.
